Concussion Rehabilitation

A concussion doesn’t always look dramatic from the outside, but the effects — headaches, dizziness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, sensitivity to light or motion — can disrupt work, school, sports, and everyday life for weeks or months if not properly addressed. Quality Physical Therapy works with patients recovering from concussions related to sports, falls, workplace incidents, and motor vehicle accidents.

Our approach starts with a careful evaluation of balance, eye movement, neck function, and exertion tolerance, since concussion symptoms often involve more than the head injury itself — neck strain and vestibular disruption frequently play a significant role in ongoing symptoms. Understanding the specific combination of issues at play allows us to build a rehabilitation plan that targets the actual source of a patient’s symptoms rather than simply waiting for time to pass.

Treatment may include vestibular and balance retraining, graded exertion programs to safely rebuild tolerance for physical activity, neck-focused manual therapy and exercise, and visual-motor coordination work. For athletes and active individuals, we pay particular attention to safely progressing back toward sport or activity, since returning too quickly can prolong recovery or increase the risk of another injury.

We also understand that concussion recovery affects more than the body — it can be frustrating and disorienting for patients who are used to being active and independent. Our team keeps communication clear throughout the process, explaining what’s improving, what to watch for, and when it’s appropriate to return to work, school, driving, or sport. If you or a family member is recovering from a concussion, structured rehabilitation can make a meaningful difference in how completely and how quickly that recovery happens.
